I received this flyer by email from Charles Powers. On Tuesday, September 28th, the Council is posed to approve a controversial restructuring of the Police and Fire Departments. Here's a link to the Op Ed piece reproduced in the flyer. The opinion piece suggests that appointing Wilson to the newly created position is an act of political patronage that will weaken the independence of the two agencies. The article states that the move appears to be an end run around state employment rules that will substantially enrich Mr. Wilson who in addition to his new salary will be collecting a $100,000 a year pension plus $100,000 for unused vacation and sick time, plus free dental and medical benefits for life.
There will be a meeting to discuss the change at 7 PM on Monday, September 27th at the Rodda Center. I expect that the many people who are passionate about this issue will relish the opportunity to pontificate.
